5 tips for an excellent Shark Tank pitch or Here’s your guide for the perfect pitch!

What’s the secret to an excellent pitch at Shark Tank? The Tenth Season of Shark Tank is here and we bring to you the best tips from Season 10 that could help you impress the Sharks.

Be Interactive: ‘Use our product! Feel our Fabric! Taste our Wine! Play our game!’ Interactivity is one aspect which has won the most amount of pitches on Shark Tank. When it comes to some kind of product introduction with the Shark, make sure you are interactive. This helps you to involve the Sharks physically in your pitch. On episode 11 of this season, Brice Baillie the entrepreneur behind ‘Obvious Wines’ took interactivity to a whole new level and presented his pitch with a memorable French mime act. A native of Champagne, France, Brice admitted that he’s a wine snob and said, ‘I realized that my friends struggled to pick a wine. Not everyone can read labels, so I wanted to connect wine lovers with no knowledge to the best wines available.’ Obvious Wine is a new line of curated wines with straightforward labels for a snob-free client. Brice put his experience from theatre and culture exchange programs to the best use as he pitched his business idea interactively to Kevin O’Leary, owner of the wine label ‘Vintage Wine Estates’.

Be Captivating: Just like every other person, all sharks love a good story! Most of the successful pitchers have some kind of story- either the entrepreneur’s personal story or the story of how the product was invented. Stories captivate our imagination. Lucinda Cramsey, the eighth-generation farmer and entrepreneur recently landed a deal on Shark Tank with a mission to create a sustainable food system where farmers are treated fairly and animals are raised humanely. Lucinda created ‘Moink’ to connect farmers and consumers transparently. The Sharks were more than impressed as everyone wants to invest in missions that matter. While raising the alarming issue of farming, Cramsey said “We put the food on your tables and we can't put the food on our tables," to which Guest Shark Jamie Siminoff replied “Because of that, I felt like it was my life mission to help family farmers be independent outside of big agriculture” and offered to help her scale the business.

Be Entertaining: It is a common principle that we humans love anything which is out of the ordinary. But you would want to know if something similar works in the Tank and the answer is a big YES! Christmas came early on Shark Tank as Texas native Mitch Allen made his way on Episode 12 of Season 10 of the show. His organization called ‘Hire Santa’  brings holiday cheer to people as far away as China through its network of Rent-a-Santas. To prove his point, Allen filled the Shark Tank with a group of jolly men with great white beards and red suits, and even Frosty the Snowman. The sharks were also asked to join the festivities, wearing Santa hats. What a lovely way to keep everyone entertained as you pitch your business idea. Speaking on life in the tank and his offbeat pitch, Allen said “I was a little surprised that you have to pay for your whole set yourself. Getting it there, everything. I ended up having 20 Santas, Mrs. Claus and two mascots. We filmed for about 45 minutes.” Well, isn’t that’s entertainment at a different level altogether!

Believe in yourself: Not everyone is perfect but all we can do is to have that belief and keep trying until we succeed. A similar emotion was observed on Episode 13 when a family from Shelton presented their concept, a kid rewarding system which they have named ‘Kudo Banz’.Kudo Banz is a visual reminder that helps you achieve your goal. But it did not become a brand overnight. What worked for the family was the belief they had in their product but is that enough? At Shark Tank, it is equally important that the same belief is visible to the Sharks as well and that’s where the Shelton family decided that the testimonials had to come from children itself. Speaking of her journey, Amanda commented ‘Life has an amazing way of turning the tables. It was these little voices that this time built me up and told me “You can do it”. Being an introvert, it was one of the toughest things I have ever done, but confidence is what got us all to the stage. Confidence in our product and the message that we want to bring to parents around the globe.’ That’s truly inspiring! Mickey, Ayaan, and Sofia took over the pitch and explained the use of their band confidently and became the real masters of the pitch. Amanda and Hamza Naqvi, along with their children, Mickey, Ayaan and Booth Hill School second-grader Sofia, will be featured in Episode 13.

Don’t resent rejection: Rejections are a part of life, don’t let them kill the entrepreneur inside you. Work towards growing a stronger business instead and your dream pitch might just come naturally to you. Brothers Bryan and Caleb Lewis are co-founders of Dallas based Press waffle Co who pitched national development for their brand this season. On the long struggle before finally making it on the show, Bryan Lewis revealed “We were a little self-conscious about the fact we didn’t have a food background but it has it’s become one of our greatest strengths. The great thing about our business model is it’s super simple,” Bryan Lewis said. “From the very beginning of this company, we knew we wanted to go on “Shark Tank.” The exposure is the greatest thing.” The brothers waited for more than 2 years before finally getting a call and Shark Tank couldn’t come to them at a better time with the fourth outlet of Press Waffle Co. opening soon.
