Corporates vie to spread message of organ donation at skit competition organized by Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai

September 14, 2019, Mumbai: Apollo Hospitals Navi Mumbai today saw corporates vying with each other on stage at the inter-corporate skit competition organized by the hospital to promote organ donation. Entertaining skits that weaved in the message of organ donation and the importance of organ donation in saving lives left a forceful impression in the minds of the audience. The initiative saw seven corporates from Navi Mumbai taking part with gusto in the competition. The participants included Hexaware, Central Railway, Indian Oil, JSW, MSEB, State Bank of India and the Mumbai Port Trust. The skits were live-streamed on the social media pages of Apollo Hospitals to enable the message to reach viewers from across the country.

Santosh Marathe, COO & Unit Head, Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai said, “Skits are a powerful medium of communicating with people and educating them on social issues. With a large number of patients waiting for an organ, it is important to create awareness on organ donation. We have taken up the challenge of educating the people on the need for and importance of organ donation. A skit competition involves a large number of people leading to conversations on organ donation. The aim is to enlighten people on the ease and painlessness of organ donation, and on the lives that can be saved.”

The skits used different forms of the art of theatre to convey various aspects of organ donation. The audience was glued to the stories on organ donation playing out on stage using song and dance, comedy and melodrama. Though the skits were in different genres, they all had the same message on promoting organ donation.  The messages included one donor saving more than eight lives to how anyone regardless of age or gender can become an organ or tissue donor. The skits also cleared the superstition and myths around organ donation.

Mr Marathe, added, “India has laws to regulate the process of organ donation, but more awareness is required about these laws. Thousands of lives can be saved if more people pledged their organs for donation. Apollo will continue to work towards education of organ donation with initiatives that involve and educate people.”
