"This movie closes the circle": Director Adrian Grunberg on Rambo: Last Blood

Mumbai, August 2019: Sylvester Stallone is returning as Rambo once again in Rambo V: Last Blood, the fifth installment of the cult classic. Stallone directed the last installment in the franchise, however, this time ‘Get the Gringo’ director Adrian Grunberg is helming the movie. Talking about his experience with Rambo, having worked on Narcos earlier, Grunberg said, “It’s definitely much more tackled in this one”.

The film traces the journey of John Rambo as he confronts his past and unearths his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission. The film will see Stallone's Rambo taking on a powerful Mexican cartel after his friend’s daughter is kidnapped.

“The violence is there but I think you’ll find that although it is at times very violent, there is a thought process to it," he said. "Rambo, the character, doesn’t kill anybody who doesn’t deserve to die.” Discussing the potential of another Rambo sequel or whether, as the name suggests this would be the last one, Grunberg says Last Blood "closes the circle.”

“And I have to say," he added, "I hope – on a personal and selfish level – this is the last one. There’s a very poetic feeling to this movie. If it is the last one, I think people will be thankful for it. They will be… satisfied.” Rambo: Last Blood also stars Sylvester Stallone, Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Adrianna Barraza, Yvette Monreal, Genie Kim aka Yenah Han, Joaquin Cosio, and Oscar Jaenada.

PVR Pictures and MVP Entertainment will release Rambo: Last Blood in India on September 20.
